Difficulty Sleeping

Poor sleeping habits or poor sleep hygiene is a big one. Those suffering from psychological trauma may have difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or may have a lot of nightmares or all three. Sleep should be a time for healing, but, unfortunately, when people are filled with fears and anxieties, even the notion of going to sleep can be anxiety provoking.

Difficulty in Interpersonal Relationships

Difficulty in interpersonal relationships is another symptom of trauma. Some people may have a hard time making friends or being in a romantic relationship or they may have difficulty staying in any kind of long-term relationships.

Depression

Different signs and symptoms of depression can be a symptom of trauma. These depression symptoms can be lack of motivation, difficulty feeling pleasure in any activities, procrastination, difficulty completing tasks, feelings of hopelessness, and the list goes on. What’s important to note here is that the depression may be closely related to the trauma, so one cannot treat the depression without also addressing the trauma.

Anxiety and Fear

All kinds of anxieties and fears can stem from trauma. Fear of success, fear of failure, anxiety about meeting new people or going new places, or anxiety about just about anything. Just like depression, treatment of the root cause can go a long way to resolving the traumatic issues.

Everyone is different and how each of us experience trauma can be different, too. However, help is available, and counselling with an experienced professional can help someone suffering from trauma in ways that are impossible to achieve alone. If you are struggling with the remnants of trauma from your recent or distant past, we urge you to seek counselling. You will be amazed at much counselling can help you feel better.

Also, do not hesitate to try online counselling. It is every bit as effective as in-person counselling and a whole lot more convenient. The most important part of the counselling equation is a competent therapist and a willing patient or client; the delivery of talk therapy is not what determines how effective the therapy is.
